Noon: The beginning of the hike was practically flat for miles (we took a detour
to Cliffey's Cave, but never found it). Deceptively easy...
There were Lady's Slippers everywhere. Stopped to get a shot of one.
Same cluster of flowers. This would have been a better shot except I forgot
to set my camera's extreme-close-up feature this time, so it's out of focus
(the rangefinder found the ground behind the flowers).
3:30 PM: At an overlook just below the summit of Firescrew, the congratulatory photo-taking begins.
4:00 PM: View from the summit of Cardigan, down the South (far) face.
Photo taken while huddling in the lee of the lookout tower as 50-knot winds (estimated)
whipped by.
Summit view of Firescrew (to the North), with the White Mountains in the background.
Summit view to the East.
Did I mention incredibly strong winds? Here's the evidence: the anemometer broke!
4:15 PM. View back to Cardigan while descending the east slope of Firescrew.
