Monadnock hiking trip, may 19 2002


The first real uphill hike of the season. It had snowed heavily the day before, and the day started out quite cool, but warmed enough not to be a major problem. Still, all the snow on the ground was a major contrast with the same hike almost exactly a year before .

click to see full-size image We stopped to rest at a scenic ledge. Dan was telling a story. I'm pretty sure it wasn't about fish, even if the photo gives that impression.

I was pretty proud of the composition of this photo, until I noticed that the horizon isn't horizontal. (Same problem creeps into some of my other photos as well.)

I think this shot would have been better with expensive color film (the digital camera doesn't quite do justice to the dazzling white snow and the level of detail that was visible). Still, it came out pretty well considering I didn't have to calculate what f-stop to use.
