Aggressive swan

Swifts & Swans, 9 April 2007

	A sure sign of spring: a red-breasted robin.
	There were several swifts darting down to skim the water. This is the closest I came to catching one in the act.
	Poor lighting, but interesting size contrast: great blue heron briefly flying side by side with a swift.
	A pair of swans were building a nest. This is the proud father-to-be.
	The swan floats regally by.
	When a goose got too close to the nest, the male swan came charging back like an avenging angel.
	The enemy is routed.
	The swan takes a victory lap with his wings still puffed out.
	A widgeon, also the male half of a pair.
	The widgeon again.
	Two night herons of a goup of four.
	Night heron again.
	Finally one swift came close enough to allow a decent photo.
	Then another swift arrived.
	And another.
	One more.
