wood anemone
Blooming just beyond the edge of my back yard.
I assumed this was American wood-anemone, but I've learned that European wood-anemone has been introduced to Massachusetts, and the two species look alike to me. (In fact, I think they were considered a single species for a while.) For now I'll continue to call it the American species.
