Coots, January 2011

A whole bunch of photos of coots (Fulica americana ) from a walk along the river. Be warned, the captions will be exceptionally dull. How much can you say about two birds paddling around in the middle of a flock of ducks?

Coots are slightly interesting in that though they act like ducks, they aren't ducks. They don't even have webbed feet. Also, you can amuse yourself by trying to recognize the two different individual coots shown in these photographs. And as with many waterfowl, you definitely want to view a few close-ups at full size so you can appreciate the color of their eyes.
