Cattle Egret (genus Bubulcus)

Animalia > Aves > Pelecaniformes > Ardeidae > Bubulcus

This genus contains only one species, Bubulcus ibis. Compared to egrets in genus Egretta, the Cattle Egret is a bit shorter and thicker, especially its bill. It also has characteristic yellowish breeding plumage, and is more likely to be found on dry land than most other herons.

Typical Egrets (genus Egretta)

Animalia > Aves > Pelecaniformes > Ardeidae > Egretta

Long necks, long legs, long beaks. Often white and/or with showy plumes. In other words, a lot like genus Ardea, but smaller. Authorities do not always agree on whether some species belong to Egretta or to Ardea.
